Huntsville, AL - Les Phillip is off and running in the race for the 5th District Congressional seat. Fundraising and constituent support is at an all time high as he emerges as the most well rounded candidate to represent this district. Not that he is a career politician, but quite the contrary. A former Navy pilot and corporate executive, Les and his wife Merle own their own business and understand the “real” world and the challenges that average Americans are facing today.

Although running as a Republican, Les is in this race to win voter support from conservative minded democrats and independents as well. “It’s not about the ‘party’ it’s about ‘people’ and the common goals and values we share. It’s time that government gets out of the way and let’s America thrive again” stated Phillip.

Coming from a diverse background both personally and professionally Les brings insight and innovation back to Main Street America. He understands that the greatest asset we have here in North Alabama are the “people.”

“Diversity breeds innovation and with the level of skilled workforce that our district has in place now along with a continual focus on workforce development, North Alabama is positioned to remain a leader in attracting manufacturing, defense and aerospace contracts, retail and more. ” states Phillip.

But with the news of federal budget cuts and elimination of NASA’s ARC I and V Constellation project, Phillip comments, “The reality sets in that no place in America today is exempt from the government gone wild and the economic impact it’s having on households across America today. It sends a strong message to our constituents that the representation for a district that is so heavily involved in defense and aerospace which drives even more jobs in manufacturing is critical to our economic stability.”

Although, Griffith has spoken out against the democrats, what can really be done at this point? With his recent party “switch” his ability to influence anyone in Washington right now is to say the least, questionable.

When asked what he would do in this situation, Les Phillip stated “My objective would be to be PROactive rather than be forced to be Reactive. Maybe it’s my middle class upbringing and hard knocks along the way that have taught me never to take anything for granted even in the best of times. I will not stand on the sidelines and wait until something happens.

Elected or not, I’m actively working with industry leaders to develop a plan that I would introduce to Congress later this year. The plan would offer policies that would greatly enhance our opportunity for job growth and security. The politicians today rely on pork legislative practices and self serving agendas. This is “risky” business and a risk that I’m not willing to take when families across this district are relying on us for jobs!”
